Lace and Silk in thrift shop.

"My idea about thrift shops is that they contain vast treasures worth lusting for." - Maddie, 2010

Last Monday, I had the chance to go to another thrift-hunting adventure. This time with my guy pal, Gino. It should have been the day before, but unfortunately I read his SMS late. Luckily, I was still available to go with him.

I never seen so many lovely dresses (under 200 bucks) in my nine months. I say nine months because I stopped going for adventures like this since of time constraint. Boo for academic work-load! So, just thinking of all the beautiful dresses I should have owned by now makes me teary-eyed (Yes, I do cry over clothes even I'm way past my toddler years.). I remember when I could not anymore buy the cutest skirt I found at WAGW, I literally cried over it and mopped for days because of it.

We went in in only seven different shops. And can you imagine that almost all these shops can be found in only one street. Talk about ukay heaven. Yeah. However, I had my frowning face all day, since I can only choose a few items which I can buy. I only 500 bucks to spend on clothes. What added more to my dismay is that every store is newly restocked, so there are plenty of stuff to really love. Gino commented on how quickly I can find uber cute and stylish clothes. Sadly, I only went home with four clothes.

I promise, I shall return.

Anyways, this post is about one of my finds. It is pure bliss, I tell you. Pink silk dress adorned with black lace. When I first saw it, an image of an expensive-dress-from-a- boutique flashed into my mind. I can't really tell from what store, but I somewhat recall that it was sold locally.

Well, I will no longer torment you on imagining it. Here is the dress:

Chic and classy.
A closer look on the lace details.

Lower part of the dress.

Unfamiliar brand. Do you know this brand?
When I tried this dress, Gino said it looked cute on me. I second the motion.

Now, because I could not find the local store where I remember seeing this. I will post an image of a dress similar to this, but is found elsewhere.

And you know how much this one costs? About £39.95! Well, converting it, would make it a luxury item beside my 100 bucks worth of ukay treasure.

Have you found something worth lusting for in thrift shops?

Ciao,

Maddie

Book Love Affair.

I recently received my gift from a friend. And boy was I happy! Ever since last summer break, I had stopped from reading books because of the following reasons: I have not come across books that fancy me; I can not purchase books because of my limited budget. Well, the latter is my 'real' problem. And so, my love affair with books had long been impeded.

Alas! I was given an opportunity to revive my long lost connection with reading; we had our little kris kringle. Everyone was asked to post their wish list on Facebook. And of course, the dutiful me really spent time in thinking what I really want to receive for Christmas. I tried to list down lesser make-up stuff since in my opinion,  I have been already focusing on make-up too much. Hence, I listed clothes and books as the things I wanted for our little kris kringle.

My friend, Pau, was the one who got my name. It was funny to remember that she once said, whoever got my name will immediately surrender because of the specifications I posted for my wish list. I never did guessed it was her all along.

Anyway, she got me a gift which I will forever treasure. And as the title of this blog suggests, she got me a book.
I was all smiles when I got this baby :)
I now prove she is one thoughtful friend. No offense Pau. I love you! She added this cute bookmark :)
And with that, I am bound to have my busiest yet fulfilling Christmas break.

Hello to reading, thesis and presentation making!

Advance Merry Christmas everyone!

Ciao,

Maddie
